In its’ 39th year(2012), the Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta has made a commitment to providing $30,000 toward the NT Community in 2012. The three (3) beneficiaries of the 2012 event are;
1. Victims of Crime NT - $10,000 in 2012, plus $5,000 in 2013 and $5,000 in 2014
2. St John’s Ambulance (NT) Australia Cadet Division – Palmerston - $10,000
3. Arthritis & Osteoporosis NT - $10,000
Des Gellert (President of the Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta) said that “the proposals received from these organisations all demonstrated their respective areas of need, and set out clear plans to use the funds we are providing.“
“Victims of Crime NT was formed in 1995 by a concerned group of citizen’s that felt offenders had more rights than the victims of crime. Funding was sought to specifically support the recovery of Young Victims of Violence. It provides information, support, counselling and advocacy for victims of crime in order to confront the effects of trauma and to assist them in regaining control of their lives.
“St John’s is looking to acquire an interactive (white) board and software to improve first aid training outcomes and efficiency for 40 cadets and juniors at their Palmerston facility. This would flow on to assist in the continuing professional development of all St John Staff at the same facility.
“AONT (Arthritis & Osteoporosis NT) outlined a project which would increase and improve delivery of information sessions, presentations and pain management workshops by up-skilling AONT staff and volunteers, and training new volunteers. It is estimated that as their capacity increased due to the training, an extra 50 – 100 people in the community would benefit.
We are looking for a worthwhile project to support for the next Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta (2013). If your organisation is seeking funds please contact convenor at beercanregatta dot org dot au for a selection criteria as we may be able to help you.
